A different way forward

Less pressure.
Clearer communication.
Less pressure. Clearer communication.

Horses communicate with us through subtle signals that can easily be misunderstood. By learning to recognise and respond to these signals, we can earn their trust and create the conditions for positive learning.

My approach combines sensitive ground and ridden work, helping you understand your horse and develop a relaxed, trusting partnership.

without causing harm.”

Alex Austin

Every horse is an individual. I work at their pace, adapting each session to their temperament, experience and responses.

On the ground

We begin with groundwork, observing how your horse responds to everyday handling and simple requests.

Under saddle

Ridden sessions explore how your horse responds to your cues, helping you develop clearer communication and confidence together.

Give curiosity
room to grow.

Young horses are naturally curious. Alex works in small, manageable steps, with positive encouragement and time to explore rather than becoming overwhelmed.

Learn alongside your horse and be involved in each stage of their training, without sending them away.

  • Handling foals and weanlings
  • Backing and starting youngsters
  • Schooling and confidence on the trail
  • Trailer/lorry loading and early travel

The aim is a calm, relaxed horse that can respond to the lightest aids.

Understanding begins with listening.
Meet your trainer

I’m Alex,

I have a calm and patient manner that horses naturally feel comfortable around.

Your first session begins with a conversation about your horse, what you would like to achieve, any problems you’re having, relevant veterinary treatment and details of previous training.

I’ll assess your horse and get a feel for them through a series of groundwork movements. This helps me identify their characteristics, mental blocks and potential issues and offer solutions that encourage connection, softness and trust.

If you’d like me to work on ridden issues, you’ll be asked to ride your horse first to demonstrate the challenges you’re facing.

Once I’ve worked with your horse, I’ll give you a clear plan and advice to help you achieve positive outcomes going forward.
